Best Time for Deep Sea Fishing in Curaçao | Seasonal Guide & Tips

Best time deep sea fishing curacao

If you love big game fishing, Curaçao is as good as it gets. The island’s warm Caribbean waters and steep drop-offs just minutes from shore make it a year-round hotspot for anglers. No matter when you visit, something’s biting. But if you’re chasing a specific trophy fish — or just want to hit peak action — some seasons shine brighter than others.

What’s Biting and When

🎣 Mahi-Mahi (April–September)
The “dolphinfish” is every angler’s dream: neon green, lightning quick, and always in schools. Perfect for action-packed trips — and unbeatable on the grill afterward.

Wahoo (October–May)
I call them the speed masters of Curaçao. These silver torpedoes explode on the line with blistering runs. Just watch out for those razor-sharp teeth.

🐟 Tuna (Year-round, best September–May)
From powerful yellowfin to smaller blackfin, tuna fishing delivers consistent thrills and plenty of sashimi-grade fillets.

🛡️ Sailfish & Marlin (Blue & White, June–September)
Curaçao sits in the heart of the Caribbean’s legendary sailfish, marlin belt. Hooking a sailfish here is the ultimate bragging right.

🐍 Barracuda & Bonito (Year-round)
Great for beginners, families, or anyone wanting constant action. Barracuda hit hard and fight dirty. Bonito keep rods bending all day.

🦈 Sharks (Year-round)
Not the main target, but they’re always around. Hammerheads and lemon sharks sometimes steal hooked fish — and occasionally end up on the line themselves.

Weather & Sea Conditions

One of Curaçao’s biggest advantages is its steady, angler-friendly weather:

☀️ Dry season (Jan–Sep): Plenty of calm, sunny days.
🌦️ Wet season (Oct–Dec): More showers but fishing stays hot.
🌀 Hurricane-free zone: Unlike much of the Caribbean, Curaçao lies outside the hurricane belt. Offshore trips rarely get canceled.

Wind averages just under Beaufort 4, with occasional gusts to Bft 5. Wave heights usually run 1–2 meters (3–6 ft), though “Lent” (the weeks before Easter) is known locally as the windiest, choppiest stretch.

The Bottom Line

There’s no wrong time to fish Curaçao — it just depends on what you’re after. From the speed of wahoo to the power of tuna and the thrill of marlin, every season brings its own highlight reel.
